Welcome to the 2009 February ANL ASC Analysis Jamboree Wiki

Introduction

There will be an Analysis Jamboree at ANL ASC in our new home, from 25 Feb through 27 Feb.

This jamboree will emphasize doing all of the steps for a real ATLAS analysis.:

  • Cross-section analysis with jet analysis as an example. Complete examples--including intermediate steps such as efficiency and purity determination--will be provided for the participants.

In addition we will look at:

  • Analysis of the reprocessed Cosmic data. Working examples will be provided for the participants' use.

The topics covered will be:

  • Introduction to data analysis: what are the steps in producing a physics result from data in ATLAS.
  • Atlas data and analysis model.
    • Athena and her components
      • Service and StorGate
      • Algorithms
      • AlgTools
    • Making DPDs
    • AthenaROOTAccess
  • How to get at the data
    • Panda, AMI, DQ2
    • Find real data (FDR and cosmics) and MC data
    • Getting the data with DQ2
  • Running on AODs and filling a ROOT tree
    • Accessing containers
    • Setting cuts via Python. (A short introduction to Python will be provided)
    • Filling histograms
    • Filling root trees
  • Using PyRoot to analyze your ROOT tree.
  • Using Tier3 computing infrastructure.
    • Using the ANL PCFarm
    • Using PROOFlite
    • Using PROOF at BNL

As usual, the Jamboree will be organized so that participants at all levels proficiency with the ATLAS software environment will benefit. There will be rather few talks and large amount of working period when participants may works on goals that they set themselves, and obtain help and guidance from the ANL ASC staff.

This Wiki will be continuously updated from now on to the end of the Jamboree.
