In the wake of the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, and a global pandemic disproportionately affecting people of color, our nation is reeling from the collective effects of systemic racism, police violence and white supremacy. We condemn violence against Black communities and are calling upon our membership to take action.

We call on DPF members to support students and colleagues most affected by the current situation and allow them to make space for time away from research to participate in activism and/or tend to their own emotional needs.

Further, we call upon DPF members to take a stand against police and state violence against Black communities. We call upon our members to demand that our legislators enact police reform. We call upon our members to engage with their local law enforcement and government to demand an end to police brutality and suppression of peaceful assembly. We call upon our members to support Black led organizations in their communities who are advocating for change.

As a starting point, we direct our members to this list of organizations for change and we invite DPF community members to the Snowmass Town Hall on Supporting Black and POC membership on June 15th, 12:30pm EST.

Signed, Members of the DPF Executive Committee and DPF Ethics Task Force:
