Description
The subgroup covers the use of noble elements for particle detection, in gas, liquid, or solid phase, as well as other similar techniques. Included technologies include TPCs are large and small scales, that include the measurement of scintillation, ionization, and other interaction signatures. Example applications include collider experiments, searches for neutrinos and their properties, Dark Matter direct detection.
We invite Letters Of Interest (LOIs) to outline developments in the area of Noble Elements across the science frontiers of high-energy particle physics. In particular, we welcome contributions that touch on the following technologies/instrumentation areas:
- Detectors technologies making use of liquid, gaseous, or solid argon, xenon, helium or other noble elements
- Single- and dual-phase time projection chambers
- Scintillating bubble chambers
- Calorimeters
- Non-noble phase change detectors (e.g., superheated or supercooled detectors)
This topical group focuses on the advancement of technology and instrumentation of these detectors. We will coordinate with the appropriate science frontier topical groups to ensure that all LOIs are addressed, recognizing that these detectors can be used to study a wide range of scientific topics, including but not limited to neutrino oscillation and interactions, neutrinoless double beta decay searches, dark matter searches, and collider physics.
