Description

The goal of the Theory Frontier is to articulate the recent advances and future opportunities in all aspects of theory relevant to HEP, including particle theory, formal/string theory, cosmological and astro-particle theory, and quantum information science. As a cross-cutting frontier, the Theory Frontier is also charged with coordinating theory-related activities with the other frontiers in topics of overlapping interest.

Submitted LOI

Letters of Intent submitted to the Theory Frontier (as primary frontier) shown in this link. Here is the list of submitted LOIs that include TF as primary or secondary topic. First index before ”/“ corresponds to the primary frontier used for the submission. Please go to the “topical” group to see the LOIs submitted to specific topics. Documents with “TF0” will be shown only here (no specific topic).

Contributed Papers

Contributed papers (“white papers”) form the backbone of community involvement in the Snowmass process. For further details on content, format, and submission, visit the general page for Contributed Papers. We emphasize that the composition and submission of white papers is carried out by members of the community; the role of conveners is to facilitate connections, cover gaps through coordination and solicitation, and synthesize collective input in the frontier summary documents.

In order to develop a more complete picture of planned contributions and build connections between potential authors, we have created an Expression of Interest form for white papers. If you are writing a white paper in the Theory Frontier or are interested in finding collaborators to write a white paper, we would encourage you to fill it out. Completion of the form is not required in order to participate or submit a white paper, but will help us to anticipate your contribution. Where indicated, we will also use results from this form to connect theorists with shared interests.

The ultimate deadline for white papers throughout the Snowmass process is July 31, 2021. Within the Theory Frontier, we would encourage you to submit your papers earlier in order to ensure that they are given them the greatest possible consideration in the preparation of Theory Frontier summary documents, preferably by April 15, 2021. This allows us to make greatest use of your contributions as inputs to the outlines & first drafts of the topical group reports and Theory Frontier summary, which will be revised with community feedback through the spring and summer. Authors of white papers that are not complete by April 15 are welcome to submit them at any time between then and the July 31 final deadline, but will be asked to contribute a one-paragraph summary by April 15 for planning purposes.

We would like to encourage PIs to involve their postdocs and students in the Snowmass process, whether by including them in white papers or supporting them in drafting their own. Snowmass provides a valuable opportunity for early career members of the community to broaden their perspective on the field and build connections outside of their normal collaborations.

Theory Frontier Timeline for Contributed Papers

Topical Group Reports & Frontier Summary

The Theory Frontier plans to submit 11 Topical Group Reports, as well as several cross-cutting reports regarding specific topics of interest across more than one frontier. Each report will be led by the corresponding topical group conveners, synthesizing contributed papers, LOIs, talks, and solicited input. The conveners of each topical group will determine the criteria for authorship, which may vary between topical groups. The reports will be made available for public review and comment at the outline and draft stages.

The Theory Frontier will also submit one Frontier Summary, combining inputs from the Topical Group Reports and other contributions. The summary will be led by the Frontier conveners and co-authored by topical group conveners and liaisons. The summary will be made available for public review and comment at the outline and draft stages.
